BK Flea Top Five 4/25/09

Well.. this past Saturday came and went in Brooklyn and was absolutely amazing. The weather was perfect, a nice 86 degrees with not a cloud in the sky. I spent most of the day at the flea... sipping on ice cold limeade and exploring all the many treasures the flea has to offer. Below are my Top 5 picks of the week. Enjoy!!!

BK Flea Top Five:
This sketch reminds me of Scarlet O'Hara from Gone With the Wind.
(love the frame too)

I think this would be so cute in an entryway
with cute umbrellas stored in the side compartments.

I loved the display of this handmade jewelry...
especially the delicate necklaces draped over the opened journal pages.

I'm a sucker for leopard print and would love to have this in my living room.

**SWOON** I would antique this in a cream/gold color
creating an "Old Hollywood Glamour" sorta feel.

My 1st Guest Post: Design Lovely

About a month ago I featured one of Jennifer's Candy Prints on my blog and in return she featured me on her blog Madebygirl. If only I would of know then that by doing so I would have been reunited with a long lost friend from high school! Sometimes it can be so wonderful when you are reminded how it really is a small world after all. Well since reconnecting my friend Rachel and I have been following each other through our blogs and I was extremely delighted when Rachel asked me to do a "Guest Post" on her Design Lovely Blog! You see Rachel was lucky enough to find the guy of her dreams, get married on a beautiful island (where she lives) and then honeymoon in Ireland... WOW! What a lucky girl!!!

Anyways... please be sure to check out Rachel's blog....

Featured Illustrator: Antoinette Fleur

My heart stopped beating for a quick second when I was introduced to the above artist featured on Simply Seductive. Seriously I fell in love!!! I love the way the artist is able to convey the simplicity of a quick ink sketch in something that really is so complex. Antionette has a style all her own and its absolutely fabulous! I would describe her work as perfection within imperfection resulting in a unique work of art. Click here to check out more of Antionette Fleur's work.

BK Flea Top Five 4/18/09

Yesterday was the Opening day of The Brooklyn Flea's 2nd Season in Fort Green, Brooklyn. I have been waiting for this day since last December when they packed up for the winter and headed to Dumbo. As luck would have it the weather was absolutely amazing yesterday, the perfect weather for enjoying an outdoor flea market. I went with a good friend from work, who also lives in the neighborhood, and enjoyed a live marching band, California worthy Mexican food, all natural ice cream, lovely necklaces, fabulous furniture, TONS of sun and "old things" galore!

I took a few pics of a very small number of the things I loved and have since decided to bring you a list of my top 5 favorite things every week. This weeks list isn't the greatest, as I decided to do this new weekly feature after the fact but rest assures these are 5 great things and there will be many more to come from now till December :)

First off, just to give you a little background info... I use the word LOVE a lot. Especially when it comes to places or things. I love flea markets. I love magazines. I love fashion. I love style. I love retro kitchen items. I love leopard print. I love old dresses from the 40's to early 60's and the late 70's as well. I love purple and recently started to love green (really I love all colors on some level, it just depends on how you mix and match them as well as what day you ask me) The list could go on forever, but I think you get the idea.

Now if you were paying attention I shouldn't even have to tell you how I got a little weak in the knees when coming across this booth at the Brooklyn Flea yesterday. Picture it: Vintage Vogue Magazines $20 each, vintage prints including pin ups, fashion, NYC and more.... Vintage eye glass frames, jewelry and more stuff' than I can remember. *swoon*

I didn't buy anything yesterday, although I'm kicking myself for not picking up the "New Ways to Wear Color" (featured above) Vintage Vogue issue! Seriously I cried a few tears last night. But rest assured... the lovely lady behind these gorgeous finds will be back every Saturday and you better believe I will be too!

Christian Siriano for Payless!!!

I know I'm a little late on this but being a PR lover and more importantly a true fan of Christian Siriano, I had to share with you his new footwear collection for Payless (yes... I said payless) Now I know his collection is VERY reminiscent of The Rodarte Fall 2008 Collection but seriously who really is an innovator in the fashion industry these days. Everyone is influenced by someone and I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

And to all that gasped when I said "payless"... shame on you. Personally I have never been one to care about where an item was purchased. I actually find joy in finding fabulous things in not so fabulous places. Of course I will have to inspect them in person... but from first glance I have a feeling I will like the gold specked turquoise pair and the brown bootie with gold heel. Then there's the pair featured below on Mena, now those are fierce!!!

A sketch from Christian Siriano's Collection.

Also if you have a few moments, check out this video of Christian Siriano pre-fashion week, Fall 2009. Also via shoeblog.com.

"Oh, trust me I'd be real fierce. " -Christian Siriano

...don't you just love him =)

Spotlight: MKendall Photography

I discovered MKendall's photography on etsy.com and instantly fell in love. I love the vintage quality that all of her photos possess, as well as the overlaying of image's that she has become known for. MKendall comes from a painting background which explains her artistic approach to her photography. She says that her style has been described as " dreamlike, surreal and filled with the essence of memories" and that she "tends to create images of a world I can only dream about, but long to go to." Sounds like my kinda girl! Above are a few of my favorite pieces which are all available for purchase through her etsy shop.

For more of MKendall's work check out her flickr page.
You can also follow her blog Polaroid Cupcake for even more inspiration!

Enjoy!

There's No Place Like Home...

Sparkly red shoes... check! Fun printed dress... got it! Red lace glove...on and ready! Blue tulle...you can't miss it! L.O.V.E... shinning bright as the sun!!!

All of the above came together to create in my opinion an amazingly adorable photos. I love the color, which plays a huge roll in the shoot as well as the way you can really see the couples personalities shine through. It doesn't hurt that Anika is wearing sparkly red shoes... I mean seriously...She's giving Dorthy a run for her money!!!

Fascinating Fact: "It's considered unlucky to give one daffodil, but to give a bunch is to ensure happiness" -via Trader Joe's Culinary Compendium March 2009

Have you every wondered where the term Narcissism came from... well according to a Greek fairytale, there was a very handsome young Greek boy named Narcissus who was so enchanted by his own reflection that he feel into a pool of water and was then turned into a Narcissus flower by the Greek Gods as punishment. The narcissus flower is otherwise know as the Daffodil. Pretty interesting fairytale if you ask me.

Well there you have it... Sunday Morning Bloom's & a history lesson all rolled into one! Now I'm off to enjoy this absolutely gorgeous day in NYC!

Slan agat!
(good-bye in Irish)
