Currently Coveting -Vintage Typewriter

Lately I have been seeing vintage typewriters everywhere. Maybe that's because I spend my weekends at Flea Markets, who knows. What I do know is that I have always loved a beautiful typewriter, especially in a lovely candy coated shade of pink, blue, green or yellow. Funny enough, I can still remember actually using a typewriter to type up papers for school. I'm not quite sure if I did this because I had to or because I just liked using the typewriter but ever since the one that we had broke, I have always wanted another. I can just imagine a stormy spring evening sitting at my window, typing chapter's from my autobiography while listening to the sounds of the rain and Ella Fitzgerald playing on the record player (which I also need to get) and sipping a chilled glass of Riesling. Aw, what a life...

One day I will find a typewriter that fits my style perfectly until then I guess I'm just stuck with this less attractive HP laptop, which although not nearly as cool, it does serve its purpose. You can't exactly blog with a typewriter.

BK Flea Top Five 6/6/09

First off, I apologize that my Top 5 Picks are so late this week, but I came down with a nasty bug that I'm finally starting to kick (thank God). The good news is that I have some great finds from this past weekend at the flea to share with you today and the even better news is that starting this coming weekend, the flea will actually be an entire weekend long celebration for the duration of the season. Saturdays will continue in Fort Greene and as of 6/14/09, the flea will also commerce underneath the Brooklyn Bridge. How fabulous does that sound?

Well now lets quit the chit chat and get down to business.

BK Flea Top 5:

Hand Crafted Storage Cabinet
The details were amazing. You can't see in this picture but the wood was actually cared to perfectly fit the vintage piece in the top right corner.

Visual Graphic Map of Brooklyn
by: Jim Datz for Three Potato Four
LOVED this! ...should of bought it (maybe next time)

Vintage Toddler Dress
My future little girl may one day hate me for this, but I would totally make her wear this. But then again, maybe she'll love fashion like me and one day be thankful =)

Reupholstered Chair $400
Although a little pricey for a flea market, I loved the color and pattern used in this design.

Vintage Cosmetic Case
Perfect for travel or decorating your dressing table.

Yummy Food at the Flea...

Of course I stuck with my beloved pupusas, but my friend was adventurous enough to try the very appealing Asia Dog's. Which by the way passed the test with flying colors!

Asia Dog, Veggie Hot Dogs
Left: "The Mash" spicy ketchup, jalapeƱo mustard w/ potato
chip crumbs; Right: "The Sidney" mango, cucumber, red onion, and fishsauce relish

and how cool was this...

Peoples Pops
"Local grown" hand shaved ice with gourmet flavors.
In the words of People's Pops "They're Turbo Tasty!"

My friend & I tried the Lemon/Mint shaved ice and
not only were we impressed with the preparation the ice was delish! Check out their blog here!

A Stylish Little World

A few weeks ago a close friend of mine came to me and said she wanted to start a children's clothing line and wanted me to be a part of it. She wants to start with an online store carrying various other vendors and let it grow from there. Since then I have found myself researching different children's clothing sites, but I haven't really come across anything that caught my eye... until now.

Welcome to the world of Bonpoint!

I absolutely love how they merchandise their boutiques, creating a very whimsical, fun atmosphere. The details are amazing, especially the use of wire hangers and wire mannequins.

Check out the Vespa below!

Stunning!

Not to mention their photography is amazing!!! Below is a few shots from their collection.

I absolutely love how they display their clothing on their website. Very Anthropologie!

Bonpoint was the very first Parisian children's Clothing House, created in 1975. The offer everything from Infants to young boys and girls. Very smart, sophisticated, chic fashions for the little ones in your life. Check out Bonpoint for yourself, I promise you don]t have to be shopping for a child to enjoy the site, the photography and overall design are appealing to all ages.

Enjoy!

Inspiration Collage: Sunday's Are For Dreaming

This past Sunday I spent the evening with a friend, creating inspiration collages. When I suggested that we go through my old magazines and tear out images that we love, she was a little confused. You see she had never experienced the joy of creating a collage based on your mood and what inspires you... but she was excited and eager to try something new.

I explained the process to her and although it took a little while for her to catch on, in the end I think she did a great job at expressing a particular mood that was inspiring her at the moment. My joy came in the fact that not only was I partaking in one of my favorite activities, but I was also able to share this moment with a friend who thoroughly enjoyed the process and appreciated me sharing it with her. The fact that you could see the sense of accomplishment on her face once her project was complete and that I had a part in that was such a great feeling.

So here it is. The end result of my lovely Sunday Evening. I love how mine (the first one) seemed to end up creating a very light, airy, daydream like quality while my friends was dark, edgy and a tad rebellious which expressed our moods, at the time, perfectly.

BK Flea Top Five 5/30/09

After spending a week in California with my family (although I miss them dearly) it was nice to get back in the swing of things and start my weekend off at the Brooklyn Flea Market. The day could not have been better. Picture it: the sun was shinning, the birds were chirping, the air was filled with the mouth watering aroma of all the various food vendors, great records were playing and then this mother walks by with her child in this absolutely to die for baby carriage. I mean seriously I wish I could of snapped a better pic so that you could see all the detail, but trust me, it was perfect! People in New York and Brooklyn particularly have such great style! This picture will defiantly be filed away as a "must have" when I one day (very far from now) decided its time to become a mommy =)

Check out the other great finds I found yesterday.

Enjoy!

Trends: The Romper

A few years back the romper was reintroduced back into mainstream fashion and has since been trying to make its mark. Although I haven't really seen this item of clothing come front and center, it sure has been popular with the fashionistas. This season I have decided to finally embrace the romper. Once I embrace something, watch out... I become obsessed. I'm one of those when I love, I LOVE kinda people. Below is a list of my current fav's. Unfortunately most are a little out of my price range at the moment, I plan to keep my eye out for similar finds at the BK Flea and my favorite local vintage boutique Collecther. Be sure to check out the budget friendly version available at American Apparel, perfect for a hot summer night.

California Dreaming...

Sorry that I have been M.I.A. for a little while, but the time had come for a much needed and much deserved vacation... So I packed up my bags, left on a jet plane and headed out West (Destination: California=Home) for a long weekend. My sister turned 21 on Thursday, Friday some friends and I did a Round Trip Road Trip from The Bay to LA (that's Northern California to Southern California and back for those of your not familiar). Tonight its time to take my sister and her friends to The Park in Sacramento, Ca. for a little post 21st cocktail or two. Sunday will be spent in San Francisco, Ca. going to Church, having lunch and enjoying the beautiful City by the Bay. Monday, some friends and I are going out on the boat for a little fun in the sun and Tuesday is family time before heading back to NYC. Busy, Busy, Busy... but don't worry I will have more pics to share soon.

I hope your enjoying this beautiful Memorial Day Weekend!

xoxo,
Fallon
