Look of the Moment July 24, 2009
Look of the Moment July 24, 2009 by fairytalewishes featuring Marc by Marc Jacobs bags

Seriously, I have been searching for the perfect "borrowed blazer" for what seems like forever now. Then today it happened, we met face to face at the Anthropologie in Short Hill's, NJ! It was love at first sight... I mean seriously, take a look at the fabulous blazer above. As it turns out since it has taken me so long to find the perfect blazer, I have had some time to create the perfect outfit around it (in my head of course). Then I thought now is the time to bring a little "life" to my daydreams and share this lovely
look of the moment with you. Click on the above picture to see details on all the items featured. You probably wont believe me when I tell you that one of the items featured above it only $14!!! Yep. That's right UNDER twenty bucks! So hurry, now. Go check it out for yourself.

Inspiration: J Crew Fashion Video's

While doing a little searching on youtube I came across a few video's that instantly inspired me. Each video is a short film/commercial shot for J. Crew. I especially love the first one, shot in Paris. Personally I love J. Crew. For a company that at its core is so basic and simple (so not me), they really are very creative in their approach as well as with their use of color and print (so me). I wonder how often they make these video's? Does anyone know or any more recent ones? If you find out, let me know.

Please check out the video's below... I'm sure they will inspire you as well =)

Featured Illustrator: Kate Doodle's

While browsing flickr I came across this lovely artist based out of London Kate Doodles and fell in love right away. My favorite collection of her's is the little birds mixed with high fashion shoes. The end result creates such a whimsical "happy" image that instantly brings a smile to my face. After a little searching I found out that not only is Kate an amazing artist but she also has a very cute blog, Little Doodles as well as a shop on etsy.com where you can purchase her delightful prints.

Below are a few of my favorite...

So In Style Barbie

About a year ago, the world was in aw when Vogue Italia introduced there all black issue and this time there at it again by celebrating the 50th anniversary of Barbie by recreating the issue with a supplement featuring the new S.I.S. (So in Style) Barbie Dolls. The S.I.S. Barbies feature more African American features, a beautiful range of brown skin tones and an array or hairstyles. Check out the videos below to find out more about the new collection as well as more about the designer behind the new dolls.

Meet The Designer:

The designer Stacey McBride is doing an amazing thing by not only creating Barbie Dolls that can relate to little girls of color but she has also give each a very aspirational side letting them know that there are so many options out there for them to dream about and become. I have to say that Grace and I, the light skin, long haired, cheer caption, have so much in common! Where was she when I was little... =)

BK Flea Top Five 7/18/09

The sky was blue, the shine was shinning and the BK Flea Vendors were out in full force. My adventures at the flea started off a different today, instead of the typical pupusas that my friend and I usually get, we opted for a tasty grilled cheese with pickles, for $5. Yum, yum! If you ever find your self at the flea, you must try. After we ate we started out on our journey through the flea. The assortment was much better this week compared to last. I came across many new vendors, as well as a few favorites. Its always hard to narrow down my selection to only five, but I think it makes that five that are chosen, more special. Below are my picks for the week.

Enjoy!

BK Flea Top 5!

Lovely Fabric Covered Notebooks
www.astrasfarmstand.com
I had a very nice chat with Astra, who designs and makes the above notebook covers. She described her inspiration as always having a love for fabric notebooks, but hated that fact that you could only use them once. These covers can easily slip off and be added to a new notebook and also include both front and back pockets. Whats not to love?!

Vintage Powder Blue Highchair
I (heart) this highchair. The perfect alternative to the modern plastic version.

Vintage Hand Stitched Custom Cowboy Boots
I love the butterfly detail on this lovely boots, custom made size US 4.

Vintage Beaded Slip Dress
$150
Seriously if I had some extra money to spare, this dress would be on display in my closet, no questions asked. Sigh.....

Handmade Feather Hat
$120
Absolutely love this!!! Again, if I could just some how get my hands on an unlimited cash supply, this too would be mine. I know its rather strange looking, but I love it. Its one of those things you have to try on to appreciate. Not everyone could pull it off, but for those who can... this hat is fierce! I plan to attempt to make one myself in the coming weekends. I will keep you posted.

Until next time...

From 7/21-8/11 just stop by any Banana Republic to get you entry code, then enter a photo of yourself in you best "Mad Men" style. Personally I have dresses that would give Joan Holloway a run for her money, so you know I will be entering the contest.

Note To Self: Mad Men Season 3 begins August 16th at 10/9c on AMC. If you would like to catch up on past seasons, the pilot is available online here and Season 2 DVD goes on sale July 14th.

Window Displays: Anthropologie Summer 2009

Not matter what, I think I will always feel some sorta special connection to Anthro (I used to work at the San Francisco location on Market Street). To tell you the truth I credit Anthro to my deep love and admiration of all things artistically creative. Working at Anthro gives you a whole new prospective on art/fashion. I will have to say that I think some of the most creative people in the world work for Anthropologie. Many have tried, but no one out there, that I know of, does its quite like Anthro does. I mean seriously the proof is in the windows. With every new display, I fall in love all over again.

For Summer 09 they decided to pay tribute to the colors of summer. On the Anthropologie facebook page they describe the range of colors used "from pineapple gold and purple basil to crustacean red and saltwater teal." The inspiration for the display not only came from the colors of summer but also from the visual team as well. The windows represent their love for "scouring thrift stores for fabric scraps to dip-dying" which once combined create the amazing visual displays seen below.

Below are a few pictures of the process and the end result. All photos via. facebook. Click here to become a fan.

Bravo Anthro, your summer windows are absolutely stunning!

I (heart) fireworks!

Last weekend I spent the 4th of July in Bakersfield, California. The weather was a perfect 101 degrees with a nice light breeze. Not to mention a chilled pool, BBQ, my pup and the family that I love. Earlier in the day my brother and I drove into town to pick up some fireworks for the evening. The last time I had done my own fireworks I was probably 7yrs old, and honestly I don't really remember it. So, really this was kinda like my first time. I absolutely loved it!!!

Below are a few shots from the evening. I wasn't sure the photos would turn out but I was pretty please with the overall effect. My favorite were the last two; one of my brother jumping through them a-la James Bond (ironically my brothers name is James as well) and the other of my brother and cousin, trying to look cool!
